Jersey Zhongwen Intermediate

So you speak a little Chinese.
Now what?

52 real arguments in Mandarin. The next step when Duolingo stops being useful.

No email. No card. Just tap.
THE PROBLEM

Every Chinese app teaches 你好.
Nobody teaches the rest.

You finished Duolingo. You got through HSK 3. You can order noodles and ask where the bathroom is. Your tones are mostly there.

But could you argue about gun rights? Talk back to a parent who says you're wasting your life? Explain cancel culture in Mandarin without sounding like a robot reading a script?

That's the wall. Every intermediate learner hits it. Nobody builds for it.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Fifty-two arguments. Six difficulty levels. Eleven languages.

💬
52 debates on stuff you'd actually argue about
Marijuana. Immigration. Cancel culture. Masculinity. Death penalty. Healthcare. The conversations you already have in English — rebuilt in Mandarin, line by line.
📈
Every debate, six times
The same argument rewritten from Intermediate Low through Advanced High. Start where you're comfortable. Run it again a level up once it feels easy.
🔊
Mandarin audio on every single line
Tap to hear it. Tap again to replay. Hear how people actually talk when they're pissed off — not a polite classroom drill.
🌐
Glosses in 11 languages, not just English
Spanish, Portuguese, French, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Arabic, Russian, German, Italian. Whatever language you think in, the bubble pops up in it.
🀄
Flashcards that stick
Every debate's vocab, tiered by difficulty. Swipe right if you know it, left if you don't. Wrong cards keep coming back until they don't.
📖
Grammar and context, not just vocab
Every debate comes with a grammar breakdown and the cultural backstory behind the argument. You're learning how people think in Mandarin — not just what they say.

STUDY IN YOUR LANGUAGE

Chinese doesn't have to mean English.

Most people learning Chinese aren't American. Tap any line to see it in the language you actually think in.

HOW IT WORKS

Built like a text thread, not a textbook.

1
Pick a fight
52 debates waiting. Marijuana, cancel culture, immigration, death penalty — take your pick.
2
Pick your level
Six versions of every debate, Intermediate Low through Advanced High. Drop down or stretch up any time.
3
Tap through it
Each line cycles 漢字 → pinyin → your language. Audio on every one. No page-turning, no forms.
4
Lock it in
Swipe-based flashcards after every debate. Wrong ones come back until you own them.
5
Come back tougher
Finish IL? Run the same debate at IM. Then IH. Then Advanced. Keep raising the stakes.

You need formal business Chinese for Monday's meeting — wrong product
WHO MADE THIS

Made by a teacher who got tired of watching students quit at intermediate.

I've taught Mandarin in public school for a decade. Every textbook I've picked up stops right before the language gets useful.

Marine Corps veteran. Studied in Taipei, Beijing, and Shanghai. A thousand students.

This is the course I wish I'd had — the one where you don't just learn Chinese, you argue in it.

FAQ
I've been stuck at intermediate for years. Why will this be different?
Because intermediate isn't a vocab problem, it's a practice problem. You know more Chinese than you think — you've never had material worth practicing it on. Thirty minutes on a topic you actually care about beats a textbook every time.
Is this live tutoring?
No. JZI is self-paced — study whenever, on any device. If you want live 1-on-1 tutoring, apply at jerseyzhongwen.com.
What level should I start at?
If you finished HSK 3 or Duolingo, start at Intermediate Low. If you can read comfortably but speaking stalls, try Intermediate High or Advanced Low. Every debate runs at all six levels — drop down anytime.
How long will it take me to finish?
52 debates at six levels each is roughly 75 hours of material, plus flashcards. It's a course for months of study, not a weekend.
Can I try before I buy?
Debate 1 (大麻 / Marijuana) is fully unlocked. All six levels, all 11 languages, flashcards included. No email, no card.
Do I need the beginner course first?
No. JZI stands alone if you already have intermediate Chinese. The bundle saves money if you want both apps.
Refund policy?
30 days. Email andrew.thomas.cahill@gmail.com and get your money back, no questions.
